The Westgate Border Patrol is a private military operating out of Westgate. The small army maintain the border between Middenfall and Westide, and their role is more ceremonial than active duty. The patrol have been accused of being heavy-handed with traders or travellers but a small donation normally eases the wheels of commerce.
The Crown of Theder has distanced itself from the border patrol, making it clear that it does not endorse the army's presence. The army is mostly funded by the militaristic and eccentric House Riktsvak.
Many of the border patrol's members also belong to Middenfall Regiment, a reserve regiment in The Theder National Guard.
Structure
The military ranks of the border patrol from least to most senior are:
- Private: the initiate rank, mostly foot soldiers.
- Sergeant: commands a Squadron of 3–5 Privates.
- Lieutenant: commands a Platoon of 2–3 Squadrons (6–15 soldiers).
- Captain: commands all of the Lieutenants and their Platoons, and answers to Westgate Council.
