Disembarkation Harea Zuritu, destination ~8 miles, 7 hours. Some previous reports accurate; conditions harsh. High temperature, strong winds, near constant sandstorms. Sands strip away materials quickly, coverings on equipment need regular patching.
Encounter: dust mephits; explode naturally when dispatched.
Encounter: lava mephits; identical results. Mephit remains include single intact heart. Br. Grìmur collecting these.
Encounter: large earth elemental "Shelley"; reminiscent of large tortoise, vast in scale: ~50ft L, 40ft W, 50ft H. Infested with lava mephits. Br. Grìmur used magical device to soothe beast during mephit dispatch. Shelley's shell spontaneously grew forest grove while resting; unknown if deliberate act to aid us or just natural behaviour of this elemental type.
Encounter: boat of unusual design; powered by steam mephit, escaped. Mephit containment chamber contains copper spike, copper tube coil outside chamber, unknown function. Single occupant of boat: Aasimar Bard, Sr. Denra, part of a larger group captured by gnolls. Accompanying us to destination in search of rest of group.
Encounters: multiple gnoll groups with hyenas; very aggressive, smell terrible, worse when Sr. Rhavafiel sets them on fire, which is often. Gnolls carry primitive weapons made of folk bones, skin. Gnolls known to enter frenzy at scent of blood; Br. Otto covered own armour in gnoll remains to trigger this response, also smells terrible. Gnolls use hyenas like hunting dogs. Sr. Denra charmed one hyena "Fluffy" to accompany us. Fluffy very loyal, protective of Denra. Smells awful but very useful.
