The Empty Eye Hobgoblins

Located in the The Sightless Hinterland, the Empty Eye Hobgoblins have lived off the barren, chilly lands that they have called home for millenia. Most of the clan resides in Northleer Stronghold but many hunting and gathering parties crisscross the hinterlands, collecting whatever resources they can find to keep the clan thriving. Although they rarely interact with the dwarves of Ther Malduhr or the humans of  The Estarian Sanctuary, they share their neighbor's expertise in both craftmanship and the arcane. Any weapons, armor, and spellbooks collected from slain hobgoblins fetch a pretty penny in the markets of Eochora, but all attempts to establish more permanent trade routes with the hobgoblins have met only with failure. Encounters between hobgoblin hunting parties and travelers often end in bloodshed, and the victors are always pleased with the spoils of their battle, regardless of whether hobgoblins or outsiders proved superior.

Organizational Structure

Hobgoblins of the Empty Eye Clan are grouped into 8 companies, based on the role they provide for the clan. A hobgoblin's title is based on the company they belong to as well as their rank in the company. The name of the lowest rank varies between companies, as shown in the list below. These general members are organized into squadrons led by Keepers, and the whole company is led by a Vision. The Vision of the Clan is the head among all the Visions and the leader of the entire Clan. Each hobgoblin is assigned a company when they reach adulthood but can change companies with approval of the Visions.

  • Life of the Clan: Raise young until they are placed into a Clan.
  • Strength of the Stone: Construct buildings, towers, and walls for the Clan
  • Light of the Forge: Craft tools, weapons, armor, and more for the Clan
  • Claw of the Hunt: Collect food and resources for the Clan
  • Edge of the Blade: Defend the Clan and fight its enemies using armor and weapons
  • Spark of the Wand: Defend the Clan and fight its enemies using magic
  • Letter of the Book: Preserve the knowledge and history of the Clan
  • Idea of the Mind: Study the magic and technology of outsiders, and experiment to find new ways to help the Clan
