Nunchaku are martial melee weapons.
The nunchaku was made of two hardwood wands or dowels, 12 to 14 inches (0.3 to 0.36 meters) long and 1 in (0.025 m) in diameter, connected at one end by a stout leather cord or a metal chain. The dowels were slightly tapered toward the chained end. The taper of the dowels improved grip and increased the weight of the free-swinging ends.
