A sweet, chipper, and upbeat child, Kosuzu is the current librarian of Gensokyo’s local booklender, Suzuunan. An avid bibliophile, Kosuzu cares more about her books than her own well being, and keeps a large collection on her own.
While Suzunaan specializes in books imported from the Outside World, and while Kosuzu most certainly loves all kinds of books, it’s the ones with… sketchier history that she likes the best. Ones written by youkai, for youkai, have youkai sealed within, or may even be youkai themselves. These are the kinds of books she prefers.
Despite her sweet nature, Kosuzu is an extremely gullible child. All too easily trusting, with a dulled sense of danger. Her personal interests take far more importance and priority to her than her own well being. And though she holds a healthy fear of the unknown, and certainly fears youkai as all humans should, this can be… conveniently forgotten if she can get a special item for her collection.
A concerning hobby - the more books she collects, the more youkai power converges around her store. And attaches to her, as well. Both youkai and exterminators alike keep an eye on her store, whether it be for personal interests, or simply to keep an eye on her situation.
Even though her biases lay with her books, she still has some sense of innate danger. Kosuzu isn’t quite sure what to make of youkai, understanding that as a human, she should be cautious about being misled by them. They are humanity’s enemy, it’s their nature to always be a threat to her well being. And certainly, she shows a healthy fear.
But the longer she spends around the power of the youkai books, the more used to their presence she gets, and the more oblivious and questioning of the danger she becomes. A naturally curious individual, and one with ever-growing questions at that, she isn’t afraid to stick her nose into places where she doesn’t belong.
She’s playing with fire, and only time will tell just how badly she gets burned.
