The Valaes Tairn is the largest subset of the Tairnadal. Their ancestors are the giant slayers of Xen'drik, and they believe that imitation is the truest form of flattery. Heroic deeds and glory in battle are the two goals of the Valaes Tairn, and their society revolves around this principle. The foes that the Valaes Tairn fight now are nothing like the giants that the ancestors fought, so the Valaes Tairn believe that the spirit of the conflict is more important than the actual opponent.

Heroic deeds and glory in battle are the two goals of the Valaes Tairn, and their society revolves around this principle. They were glad to join the Last War, and when that got too comfortable they turned on Cyre and formed the nation of Valenar. They don't just seek to fight, they seek to fight an overwhelming enemy, as did their ancestors before them.

The Valaes Tairn consists of a league of individual war-clans, not an organized legion. Forty-five warclans roam Valenar, and at any time twenty of the warclans—the Host of Valenar—are under the direct command of the war leader. Ten of these maintain order throughout the realm, while the rest engage in military operations. A warclan’s service in the Host of Valenar lasts for ten years, after which a new warclan takes its place.

The other warclans are free to conduct military operations and raids as they see fit, though the war leader can call upon them as deemed necessary. Many young elves leave Valenar for a decade or so in search of personal glory and adventure.
