No Faith in Silver Flame Top Tyke

Newspaper Article

An article in the Korranberg Chronicle, dated 27th Zarantyr, 999 YK.

Thrane shocked the world in 993 YK when it appointed the six year old Jaela Daran as the Keeper of the Silver Flame, the highest position within the Church of the Silver Flame. Now eleven years old, Jaela Daran continues to astound all who encounter her. She's been said to possess poise and wisdom beyond her years, and she displays the blend of courage and compassion that forms the foundation of the faith. As Keeper of the Flame, she wields tremendous divine power; she's summoned angels to her side and even resurrected Cardinal Halidor after he was assassinated.

Some claim, however, that the stories of Jaela's divinity, and the miracles that she has performed, are a fabrication. These same rumours indicate that Jaela is merely a figurehead for High Cardinal Krozen. Krozen is known to be reclusive, a brilliant strategist, and also a ruthless leader. One insidious rumour posits that Krozen was behind the death of Keeper Tagor in 992 YK, suggesting that he threw his support behind the child Keeper Jaela to solidify his own influence within Thrane.

Is Krozen the true power behind the Silver Flame? Who is really in charge in Thrane?

If you ask a Thrane on the street, none will deny the divinity of the Keeper, and many have personal stories of having witnessed Keeper Jaela performing miracles. Some went as far as to suggest that, if we had actually met the Keeper, we wouldn't be even entertaining the idea that the stories are exaggerated. Unfortunately, our reporters were unable to get a chance to meet the Keeper, ostensibly for security reasons.

The difficulty involved in getting to see the Keeper of the Flame, the spiritual leader of the church, no doubt contributes to the rumours that she is not what she, or the church, says she is. High Cardinal Krozen has personally stepped in the way of many requests for an audience, further raising suspicion. What is going on in that cathedral?
