Parmul - Small Shield
Shield punchers, Bucklers, or shield Flingers
A Parmul is any gladiator who carried a parmula or small shield. To compensate for this reduced protection, Parmul are usually equipped with greaves, manica, and helmet. This is the biggest school within the gladiator arenas in Eadwald. About 50% of all gladiators that fight are from this school.
They use their shield as a weapon as much as a shield. They are often covered in spikes or a sharp blade.
Symbols:
The Parmul generally do not carry any banners. They symbolize themselves with a small shield, and a helmet with a tall bright plume. The shields usually have an image of Azri stamped into them.
Weapons and Weapon combinations:
When fighting with a small shield and only wearing light armor or piece meal armor, you gain the following benefits:
- You are proficient in the use of a shield as a weapon.
- The shield gains the finesse and light weapon properties. If you attack with the shield, it does 1d6 damage. The damage type is usually bludgeoning but can be slashing or piercing if blades or spikes are added to the shield, respectively.
- You can throw your shield as a weapon with a range of 20 ft. / 60 ft.
- As a bonus action you can try to knock a creature prone. You must perform a contested check of Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) against the other creatures Strength (Athletics). You can add the AC bonus for the shield to the roll.
