The Falling Stars
The skies above Alcott are filled with stars that fall to the ground. Falling stars happen often. There are nights with many, but it is rare to have a night without a falling star. They often fall in great light shows in the night. They come in many colors. Groups of them falling as they pass through the skies. They fall during the day as well, but they are so dim people rarely notice. In rare cases they are so bright that they can be seen in the daytime. Many groups predict the falling of the stars. They predict their colors and how many might fall. They use these predictions to also predict events in the world. The falling of the stars is intimately connected for most people of Alcott. This is usually referred to as “Fire Reading”.
Fire readers can be found in almost every bar and even on the street. Some royal houses hire a “Fire Reader” as part of their staff. They are seen as important parts of everyday society.
Some believe a falling star is when a soul falls from grace, never to make it into the houses of the gods.
