Selise worked quickly. She had to get the exoskeleton leg of last week’s kill, a giant spider, wrapped with this leather while it is still wet. Or at least that is what Rain told her to do. She encircled the broad part of the leg, then pulled tight, then again and again. The tip of this leg is sharper than any bone she has seen in a long time. Maybe not good for cutting, but damn good for poking! She giggle to herself as she thought it.

This tribe, so oblivious. A little herb here, and a little herb there. A whisper here, and a whisper there, and they all fall in line doing her beckoning. She loves them, yes. But they are so inefficient and hard –headed. Better to maneuver with silk and thread, than rock and shell.

After speaking with Rain for long nights, she knew that he was right. She didn’t feel good about sabotaging the tear-catchers, but she knew that if they stayed it would be certain death for all. And there was no other way. As long as the tear-catchers worked, they would grow fat and complacent.

We were not made for this kind of life. Neighbors were fighting more, theft was more prevalent. Stealing from those who stole, just to put it back was becoming a full time job, and that is not what she signed up for.

“Selise! Get your ass moving, or I’ll blister it!”

God damn it mom… almost done… there, now to let it dry.
