a short game

1

JAN/22

We started at the door at the end of the hall which we thought had a big fight behind it. So I loaded up on Ring of blades, max psi points, used my go first once per long rest and was ready to lay waste. But it was just two wights and after some jokes about CRT, Arnia and I took ‘em out before the rest of the group could even go.

So then I spent a bunch of time searching this 10 by 10 room that the two wights were in, but I didn’t find shit. Oni searched the hall before that room and heard chanting from behind the wall on the east side. Oni Karate chopped or kicked or something and was through that wall faster than the Kool-Aid man (Oh Yeah!!!)

And there she was, Corga, the slender faced villain we’ve been chasing for a while. She’s doing this chanting, trying to get something summoned, who knows what but I am sure it ain’t gonna be good. She is doing the chanting in the direction of a skull. I can’t remember if it’s floating or not, but the picture we see makes it look like Skeletor’s skull from He-Man. But it’s not his skull. There is some talk amongst the players that it might be Bania’s, but I never heard one pun or any bad singing so I am not so sure about that.

Anyway, Oni attacks with chromatic orb and hits right off the bat, but this bad bitch has magic resistance, he also moves in and attacks the skull I think. I load up on ring of blades again and step in but only get Corga on round one, not sure what I was thinking forgetting about the skull but I get them both next round. I then step back, I have used a lot of psi points and am not currently dodging so I don’t wanna get into melee just yet.

Ixen then steps up next to me and uses some magic that pulls Corga in my direction and then he retreats behind me, and I’m like “Whaaaaattttttt??” But it’s actually a good plan, he is trying to disrupt her chanting. We are on a clock and gotta whack Corga before she finishes.

Arnia charges in, attacks with Dawn Bringer, 2 attacks plus smite on at least one. Ouch, lots of damage.

The skull looks at Oni disapprovingly and he has to make a save, which he does and that’s nice cuz he would have been frightened and something and something and something. Seriously, at least 4 things.

Next round.

I think Oni attacked the skull again. Arnia attacks Corga.

My Ring of Blades gets Corga and the Skull while I load up on Dissipating Touch, 10 psi points and I am going to do 10d12 if I hit, and why wouldn’t I hit? Corga’s AC isn’t that good, my normal bonus to hit is +9, Zach offers me his inspiration if I miss and I have that sweet ass golden eagle idol which gives plus 4 to attacks and saves, so I am pretty sure this isn’t going to just be a hit but a fucking Grand Slam!

It is not. A quick look to the left at the log and sure enough, the idol is cursed. Not plus 4 but minus 4.

Needless to say at least 30% of my brain is occupied with “how the fuck do I roleplay figuring out I’ve got a cursed item” for the rest of the game.

Anyway, we are getting to the bottom of the round and I think this is our last round to stop her so when Ixen summons 8 wolves I am all “fuck yeah, pack tactics! Rip this villain apart.” But they all roll great initiatives when they are summoned, so they already got to go before they got here or something like that, it made more sense when they explained it to me than I am explaining it here. So only one wolf attacks this round, it doesn’t kill her and I am worried. I make one last half hearted attempt to get all the wolves a chance to attack, but I am unconvincing.

Then the skull attacks Oni again, he fails I think but gets an inspiration and makes the next one.

Start of round three.

I have 4 psi points left, but luckily my Ring of Blades is still going. I go first at the start of the round and am unsure what to do. Luckily FG crashes giving me time to think. Unluckily I take way too long to reload and we end up stopping for the night.
