Familiars and Companions:
If a Familiar or companion dies the owner of the animal must make a decision to keep it alive or have it killed. If alive, the caster takes the creatures Hit Dice in Hit Points damage minimum 1 plus 1d4 Hit points damage, and the familiar loses all temporary buffs or ongoing spells on it. On a death decision, nothing happens and the creature is dead.
To acquire a new Familiar or Companion it takes 8 hours to cast the spell and cannot be done during a short of long rest.
Find Familiar Components:
In ancient times the casting of Find Familiar required 10 gp worth of charcoal, incense, and herbs that must be consumed by fire in a brass brazier to summon the familiar. This still works if you can find those items. In this world you can use other items to summon specific familiars. In all cases, you will need charcoal and some flat pan to burn the items.
