Adamant Council of Nor

Faction

The Exodus ships that failed did so because their leaders were weak. They didn’t act when they should have, and when they did? They acted poorly due to pressure from the masses, when they should have been resolute. Those that survived had skilled, proactive, senior crew. They made the tough choices, sacrificing info the weak for the good of the pack. A network of respect grew between the ships led by strong councils of senior staff. Word passed among them that a meeting would be held in orbit above the gas giant, Nor. Looking down upon the roiling blue-greens of the planet, a group of hard-eyed people cautiously gathered to discuss the future. Betrayals both violent and subtle were not unusual amongst them; they called it the “Hard Choice” to make it seem a necessity. There were no Hard Choices at this gathering, at least none that were overt, just, resolute negotiation. The topic of discussion was saving humanity. Earth had been lost to weak leaders, and that legacy had followed them into space as demonstrated by the failed Exodus ships. Only the people at this gathering had the will and cunning to return humanity to prosperity. Putting the pieces back together would not be easy nor quick, but this Adamant Council would guide the masses.

Role in Izya

Representatives of Nor govern the southern section of Izya Territory. After being kicked off the continent some decades ago by the Jovangellian Empire, they've clawed their way back and seek to conquer the Territory through "benevolence." A pledge of loyalty to the Adamant Council grants residents access to material aid shipped from Norrish territory elsewhere on the planet, a much-needed relief as The Tower is still not functioning at full capacity.

Naming Conventions

Norrish names are seen by noncitizens as overly complicated, but to those who understand, they are a succinct summation of not only who a person is, but how they relate to their community. A Norrish citizen has a name consisting of their given name, followed by a chosen epithet describing the social group which the citizen values most, and what they bring to that social group. Names typically follow the pattern: [Given name], the [Role] of [Group]. Roles vary from very literal to highly conceptual, based on personal preference.

If using a shortened version of somebody's name, it's common to call them by their role. Using someone's given name is considered very familiar and is typically reserved for close friends and family.

It's not unheard of for Norrish citizens to change their epithet, especially during a major life transition. Changing the group is more common than changing the role; and changing the role is more acceptable if also changing the group.
