Earth

Planet

One of a million planets of the same name, this Earth is notable in that it might be the real thing. Besides that it's not good for much of anything. Its location is not strategic to The War; it has no major exports; and in fact, the debris field surrounding it makes it largely dependent on off-world imports for even basic life support*. Nonetheless, its symbolic importance as humanity's possible birthplace has made it a hotly contested asset. All of The Five Galactic Sovereigns have claimed territory on the planet.

A dense cloud of orbital debris surrounds Earth, preventing consistent satellite survival and easy travel between the ground and stars; intermittent space combat around the planet and throughout the system complicates this further. A handful of space elevators provide the best access to space, but only one remains in the hands of the planet’s inhabitants.

There are millions of people who lived on Earth before The War found the planet. Regardless of whether this planet really is humanity’s birthplace, it is Earth to them and their home. Across the planet, they resist the Offworlders, their organizations, and The War in many different ways. Much of that resistance has gathered in the Izya region, where the last independent space elevator stretches into the void.

*Never mind that it was doing fine before the Sovereigns showed up and started ravaging the place...
