In the waning years of an Earth rotted by millenia of war, colonial exploitation, and capitalistic greed, humanity began a mass exodus to the stars. The Exodus ships fled humanity’s decaying cradle in varying states of quality and completion. Ships failed, were raided or cannibalized, and jettisoned all but the essentials. History, art, and play all fell in the face of necessity. Those that survived found planets to land on, settle, and fight over across the known regions of space. The evacuation left a vacuum of power, but not for long.
After the Exodus, five Factions rose to power and came to be known as the Five Galactic Sovereigns. The Sovereigns grapple for authority over humanity in an endless conflict known simply as The War.
The Galactic Sovereigns are:
- The Adamant Council of Nor, which says they have the necessary will and cunning to ensure humanity’s survival.
- The Church of the Celestial Myriad, which believes that its guidance will push humanity to reach heights worthy of the stars.
- The Democratic Federated Systems, whose bickering politicians believe that self-directed government must be brought to all people.
- Exodus Republic, Inc., whose directing board of corporations desire the profitable control of the populace.
- The Jovangellian Empire, which uses its military might to put others under its leader's sway.
Each Sovereign controls vast swaths of galactic territory, an imperial power in its own right. Earth is of little consequence to them, a desirable curiosity at best. But with the scale of power at the Sovereigns' disposal, even their curiosity could spell disaster for those who live here.
