Cunningham was once part of an experimental weapons team within The Jovangellian Empire. What he and the rest of his squad were not aware of was that they were not testing weapons, they were the weapons being developed. Specifically, using hypnosis and combat stimulants to create a brain that has has a near instinctual combat sense; with the end goal being to remove their brains, put them in a jar, and use them as piloting assist. Given the amount of combat experience they needed many of their missions being near suicide missions, and any who fell would be collected to have the operation done early so the investment could be recouped. When Cunningham realized this was their fate, He grabbed one of this fallen comrades who recently been operated on, and ran as fast as he could. Eventually, he started to run out of money to keep the comrade’s life support system powered and operating; taking what high-risk and untraceable jobs he could.
