Eori Riverleaf was just a normal child. The 17 year old daughter of a merchant in a small (no pun intended) halfling river village in The Wild Lands, she only had humble plans of working in her father's shop until he gave it to her in his older years. But that all changed one day when a group of orc raiders kidnapped her and reduced the village to timbers.
She was taken, along with several human children, to a crumbling fortress. Blindfolded and scared she didn't even get a good look at the structure, all she knew of it was it's cold and dusty inner walls. She never saw any of the children again, just robed figures that performed some sort of ritual on her. For nearly two years, she only knew combat training and tests of her strength. She never knew what these robed figures wanted, but she did know she got an extra lump of bread when she kept them happy.
But then one day Eori awoke to find her usually locked chamber door wide open and the fortress seemingly abandoned. She didn't know if it was something temporary, so she took the opportunity to finally escape what had been two years of torture. She ran through the wooded hills until she could run no more, before collapsing into a hollowed out tree stump and sleeping, possibly for days.
She woke up to find the woods feeling and looking different than they had before. She wandered for days, just eating whatever she could manage to catch before finding a small town in the Harvest Hills. Maybe she could find someone here who knew about what happened to her. Were there other victims? She couldn't allow them to suffer like she did. But in the meantime, she built herself a little shanty to stay in while she worked up the will to go into town. And the sight of a cart of delicious looking apples was just the right motivator for the famished little vagabond...
