House of Inho

Major House

The Inho are the most genetically distinct and cohesive group. A long time ago, the people of Inho adapted to their island home where they spent most of their time diving to hunt sea creatures, collect giant pearls and retrieve beautiful shells, by evolving gills and the ability to breath underwater.

Commonly referred to as the fish people or fish folk, the Inho have remained relatively isolated from the mainland. They restrict interactions to trade with the mainland, selling them the bounty of the sea in exchange for rare metals and technology. The Inho have two citadels one on the island and one further out at sea. The later is seen as their true spiritual home. Their land based citadel at Sellpoint was built thousands of years ago, not as a natural home but as a trading hub that had a strong defense against the brave merchants who have crossed the waters from the mainland.

The Inho probably know more about the sea monsters and creatures of the ocean than any other barony but they closely guard these secrets. There are those on the mainland who speculate that they have found some way to subdue the creatures or how else do they survive below the waves?

Culturally the Inho seem alien to much of the kingdom. While they have accepted the Bond in principle as an ideology, inpractice they forbid members of The Society of the Bond for being stationed at or even visiting their sea bound citadel. Their local beliefs use the images of the seas and the waters, its creatures and its terrors but what doctrines they have, if any, is not known to outsiders. The other thing that people find shocking about the Inho is their comfort with nudity. Clothes are obviously an inclubrance to those who spend most of their time swimming.

Due to the fact that their aquatic lifestyle has evolved in fairly cold seas the Inho also tend to have a layer of blubber that insulates them, like the blubber of a seal. Their most admired and deepest divers are said to be fatter still and able to dive the cold depths. Many of these divers deliberately burst their eardrums to make their long descents easier. It is only the shallow surface swimmers, seen more often by land dwellers, who have sleek muscular bodies.

Both the men and women have thick hair and wear it incredibly long which you'd think would be impractical but apparently is highly admired by them and helps them camouflage themselves under the waves. The local nickname for those from the mainland is 'slight hairs'. The rest of their bodies they tend to shave clean.
