Moonwalker Orcs

*This version was designed for Realmspace, the Moonwalker Orcs of Xenspace have a different history.

Life in the Tribe

From the moment a Moonwalker Orc is born, their military training begins. A baby Moonwalker Orc is takenfrom their parents at birth, and raised among other younglings, to avoid developing familial bonds that might overcome their dedication to the tribe as a whole. Moonwalker orc younglings are raised on the same training grounds used by soldiers.

The majority of Moonwalker Orc society strives to be a part of the military chain of command, but there are other routes for those who are unable, or the rare moonwalker orc that doesn’t want to fight. There is a place for every Orc in Moonwalker society, even if one becomes injured or ill. Due to the overwhelming desire to work as soldiers, there is a high demand for orcs in other professions. Many times taking up one of these professions, even ones as simple as sanitation, are greatly respected, since there is so little willing to work a career outside of the military.

Selûne Natives

You can use Moonwalker Orcs in pretty much any world of your choice, but they’ve been designed to fit into the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. These Orcs are descended from the scro, a spacefaring species of Orc. Docking in one of the spelljamming docks at the Leira Trading Center, groups of scro began settling in Selûne, the moon orbiting Toril.

Eventually establishing their own settlement, these Orcs culturally split from their Scro ancestors over time. While very militaristic, these Orcs are unlike many of their kin, and have not waged war on the other natives of Selûne. This lack of hostile relations, coupled with Selûnian distrust of Torilians, means the other civilizations of Selûne allow them to live in peace, in case the people of Toril were ever to invade Selûne.

Lunar Inhabitants

Lunar Inhabitants

The Moonwalker Orcs are, well, moonwalkers. Their spacefaring ancestors settled many generations ago, and they have evolved and adapted to the conditions of the moon.

If you’re playing in a world other than those of the Forgotten Realms, you can pretty much place this species on any moon. Like the other Selûnian species, their civilization has been under the protection of a biodome. This means that if you are playing in another campaign setting, you don’t need to alter the atmosphere, or really anything, about the moon you choose to place these orcs on.

Moonwalker Orc Names

The language and naming traditions stem from that of the Scro. Like their ancestors, they speak a distant dialect of Orcish. Anyone that has proficiency in the Orcish language, could also communicate with Scro and Moonwalker Orcs, though the language used by the Scro and Moonwalker Orcs had a much more extensive vocabulary.

The names given to Moonwalker Orcs are typically longer and more complex than most of their orcish cousins. Moonwalker Orcs are often named after famous heroes and generals. The Moonwalker Orcs do not use surnames, because family ties are severed at birth to strengthen loyalty to the army as a whole. They will typically use things such as rank and unit designations, such as Captain of the Black Wing. For example, a full Moonwalker Orc name might be “Lieutenant Grosharrum, Silver Brigade”.

Unlike their Scro ancestors, the military of the Moonwalker Orcs has just as many females as males. Lacking most concepts of gender roles in their society, their names rarely even hint towards whether the individual is masculine or feminine.

Moonwalker Orc Names: Grosharrum, Drigara, Onno, Orakum, Baros, Shidora, Molknor, Dusha, Avaro
