Making their home in the plane of Limbo, the monastic Githzerai, who disagreed with the violent imperialist philosophy of the Githyanki, spend their time secluding themselves with exercises that stimulate the mind, resulting in many of them becoming capable Monks and Wizards. Unlike the Githyanki, Githzerai are generally pacifistic, and are not in any way prone to violence. This doesn't mean that they are in any way incapable of violence, as many of them are skilled with martial arts, and frequently use their talents to combat mindflayer threats, as well as their Githyanki cousins.
