The Great Blast

The great upheaval of magic that set The Wastes to the state they are now; a large blast of magic ripped across planet and brought about the current Age of Elementals. Very few are left alive that saw the blast and those that did are still suffering from the debilitating aftereffects. There is some written literature about it, but very few among the modern residents of The Wastes have seen the written works. Oral history tells of the history, but The Great Boom has lost relevancy. Very few carry on the tales outside of scholarly circles.

Historians say that most knowledge was lost to the blast and subsequent years of chaos after. They also speculate that is was the cause for magic to be so wild as it is now. No one knows what the cause of the Great Blast was- just that a great civilization fell that day. The remnants of the civilization are still present to this day, though now decayed and worn from age and neglect.

It's estimated from accounts and what few bits of literature that remain that the Great Boom happened around 350 years ago.
