During the watch for overnight rest, Siax talks to Falcon.
First Siax shows Falcon the letter to see what he can make of it.
[Falcon]
"It's well deserved. Pathforger. Not bad. I see your father is still quite the practised asshole, if you don't mind me saying. Don't mind me, I've shared a lot of words with your old man. He's a great man, but being a great man does come with some responsibilities, and, umm, he's good at them. I… I can see the worry. Its easy to think of the Lord's Alliance as this shining beacon of law and justice, but if you think about it, who are we helping here? Who are we serving? Lord Neverember. Who is this guy? Does he want what's best for us? Maybe he does want what's best for Neverwinter and the Sword Coast, but does he want what's best for the guild? I can see where your father's coming from. He could have phrased it better for sure though: 'Good job at killing a dragon, oh by the way you did this badly.'"
[Siax]
"There's something that he said that's been bothering me. I was told that the guild was there to help people, whether it be one ranger on their own or several, guiding people, to do the job that others were afraid to do, for the sake of people, not for the sake of coin, not for the sake of reputation. So why… If we are not doing this for the people, then what's the point in it?"
[Falcon]
"That's what they teach in the academy for sure, and I'd like to think that's what we strive for as well. But you've gotta know, Siax, that was not… The Guided Path was not respected until recently, and it was your grandfather, but mostly your father, who brought us here, and as distasteful as it sounds it was due to a lot of politics. Before, yes, we had the same guiding morals but we were outcasts; mercenaries for hire, with a good intention, but without the means to really do what's right. Working with the Lord's Alliance, being like we are now, it allows that a lot more. It allows that and to protect the Guild. I came in as a relative outsider but I know how endangered the.." he says an elven word that Siax recognises as the [wayword forest] where the Guild's headquarters are, where your family's generations are, "It is the deal of the Guided Path that as long as the Guild serves and helps folks, the forests are left untouched and allowed to grow rather than being cut down. It's a delicate balance. Truth be told, it all gets very tiring, and that's why you found me retired and guiding people through the woods."
[Siax]
"And thank goodness we did find you. Your guidance has been worth more than you will ever know, my friend.
[Falcon]
"Ah, nothing like my Lodge being exploded to the ground to give a kick to this old man to feel a bit younger."
[Siax]
"It's on the to-do list, Falcon. It's on the to-do list."
[Falcon]
"I give you a hard time, Siax, but I do mean this. I respect you, and the accomplishments you've done. As I said, it's complicated being a ranger of the Guided Path but you have tried to uphold the true meaning of it, and I respect that. You have earned the cloak that I've given you.
[Siax]
Siax would allow himself to give himself a quick smile while he remembers when Falcon gave him the cloak
[Falcon]
"Ah, it was in my lodge, which now lies in ruins." He's just going to keep teasing Siax about that.
[Siax]
Siax mentions about the tower, and runs through what he was thinking, about how the guild agent is going to arrive in a month's time and he has a bad feeling about it. He wants to get in front of finding out what the connections are before the guild agent comes along and potentially sways what's actually happening. Not that he doesn't trust the guild, but he wants to find out for himself. It just seems too coincidental that Icespire Peak was an Elven structure, he found the Moontouched sword, he's seen the tower, there's these idol on ruined islands, and then that rock that he found. He shows Falcon the rock, and then takes his guild rank insignia and puts it next to it to show the similar writing.
"Too much coincidence."
[Falcon]
"Well I'll be. Listen, I can't tell you what's true and what's not, but you all saved Phandalin from threats uncountable and I think that was mostly because you trusted each other." He sighs. "As much as I think cooperating with the guild agent is the thing to do, I'd say get in front of it. Show this to your friends, figure it out. See what's behind it all. At least when the agent arrives you'll know more and be able to stand your ground."
[Siax]
"Wise words again, my friend. Wise words."
[Falcon]
"Ah, so many guild members in one spot. Insane." Then he looks confused for a second, "Just the one now. Huh, nevermind."
[Siax]
He would spend the rest of the time in idle chit-chat. Perhaps lightly mocking him for only having one arm.
