The Golden Cup is a tavern where nobles and wealthy merchants enjoy cool drinks away
from the beating sun. Located in the south-central area of Balic, within sight of the White
Palace, it is a one and a half story white building with large, open windows. The roof
slopes gently upwards so that the blowing silt does not collect. Large overhangs protect
those near the windows from the sun. The overhangs are made of tough beige skins that
can be lowered during silt storms, yet are thin enough to provide plenty of light.
A stone staircase leads from the ground to the main room of the tavern. The brewery and
storage area is below the floor, reached by a narrow staircase behind the curving bar that
takes up the northwest corner of the tavern. The Cup is known for its sweet, strong mead
known affectionately as Kreen Juice because of it's yellow-orange coloration. No one but
the tavern owner and the brewmaster Kenevol know the recipe. A narrow hallway run by
the bar and onto a porch to the rear where thin strips of sheep are cooked and served with
spice and a thin red sauce.
To the southeast of The Cup are a half dozen private booths. On the north side of the
building is a covered terrace where those who prefer to spend their time drinking outside
may do so. On the southern end of the eastern wall is a small alcove where musician play.
The musicians are slaves owned by Tamas (see below). They are treated quite well, and
are given as much water as they need in order to continue playing. And they take
requests.
The Golden Cup is owned by Tamas (NG hm Rog8), who retired from full time caravan
traveling with House Wavir to set up a tavern. Wavir traders get a discount, and they are
one of the most frequent patrons of Tamas' establishment. Anyone wishing to find a Wavir
trader has a good chance of finding one here. Violence is strictly prohibited here, and the bouncer Hizk-Abn (Thri-kreen Ftr9 N) keeps things polite, though he is rarely needed. He
is a relatively gentle and good natured bug, the last quality being essential to tolerate all
the Kreen Juice jokes.
