The Glass Sea

Main Quest 12

The party comes to Fort Handow. The fort is basic - the miners drink under a large tent in the courtyard. They will say that they are regularly attacked by Basilisk and other creatures. There are piles of obsidian. The dwarves have formed their own merchant house called Kalar.

Setting off establish where everything and everybody is including the Key of Darkness. This will make them paranoid. 

DAY ONE

The party head out onto the Sea of Glass, made of obsidian it stretches as far as the eye can see. They are on the trail of the emissary of Dregoth.

DAY TWO

They find tracks they look like they have been made by the kind of wide wagon they say the emissary is travelling in. But they are illusion magic set by a bounty from Raam  - Lessen Char.

DAY THREE

They are led by the tracks into a part of the plains with more jagged outcrops of obsidian. One of these outcrops he is hiding behind. He leads the party following the tracks into a trap - an explosive gliph then Lessen Char and his four warriors of Raam will attack the party.

DAY FOUR
They can see the small clump of trees that is the settlement of eastcrop to the far east of them. 

DAY FIVE

They feel a great gust of wind on their faces. For a moment its a relief from the heat.

Then they are attacked by dwarven raiders driving Arrow Runners - the largest looks like a sharpened battering ram with four wheels and a massive sail that races along the glass at great speed with five dwarven raiders riding it. One of the dwarf raiders is a wind cleric - filling the sail with a great gust that can be felt by the party howling into their faces. There are another three smaller vehicles like seated windsurfers on wheels with two riders each. They move at impressive speed - faster than anything they have ever seen. 

DAY SIX

DAY SEVEN

Party start to worry that obsidian may never end. That they are all going to die in these black wastes. 

DAY EIGHT

Heat rises on the glass CON check DC 12 or 1 level exhaustion

The wagon or one of the riders shatters a piece of obsidian as they over it. In return something bites a Kank. It's some Obsidian Retriever. They're controlled by the cleric of the Obsidian Palace. He protects the obsidian. 

DAY NINE

They see Obsidian Palace in the distance. They see Man-Gar come out to greet them, he waves his arm and a raised road of obsidian forms up out of the obsidian to meet the palace.

They meet the cleric he was not visited by the emissary but he saw his caravan pass by. Hfelt them and you coming as you walked over his precious obsidian, he feels there wheels rolling on it there tiny feet on his giant spider web.  He will tell the party of his desire to spread obsidian across Athas. To extend its purity. It's darkness is nothing to be afraid of. He will ask them if they wish to stay for the night.

His palace is all obsidian - things are beautiful and he gives them tasty giant bugs and beetles of all sorts and black bug juice to drink. Place is covered in statues of people they don't recognise - it is the family and people from the world he left behind. Grand comfortable rooms in the giant palace. He created it and cast obsidian casting it into any form but eventually he exhausts himself and must rest.

He came to the sea as a young man a graduate of the school of the way in Nibenay he had begun studying elemental magic. Here he learned to perfect his art over long decades. He has become more than a cleric of the elements he has become an artist. He has become transforming into a body of the elemental power of obsidian. He grants them three days water. 

DAY TEN

The party can see bodies of dead dwarves encased in obsidian, they wear outfits from the age of the cleansing wars. If they try to dig them out they will enrage Man-Gar and he will form Obsidian Retrievers to attack the party. 

DAY ELEVEN 

You will see the Cloud Ray with Vosdra one of the brides of the shadow on it fly overhead.

DAY TWELVE

Winds sweep across the plains

DAY THIRTEEN

They see the great ravine to their west the Glass Ravine. The ravine is over 100ft wide and bars their way.

There is a flock of Aarakocra living on the upper ledges of the cliff. They have zip wire they can connected that would allow the party to cross the ravine, if they can be persuaded. They most wanted food and water. They could also be persuaded to look after the goods and wagons but for a higher price.

They can climb down and up the otherside. The colorful plants are psionic and will attack the party but they can be used as poison ingredients if picked.

DAY FOURTEEN

They see a Dwarf Banshee riding an undead Kank. It has the banner of the Dead Snakes

DAY FIFTEEN

The undead dwarfs will surround their tents at night but will not attack unless provoked.

DAY SIXTEEN


DAY SEVENTEEN

Gets so hot on the glass need CON save or exhaustion. 

They see the castle of the defiler in the distance. Closer they see the banner of the Dead Snakes.

At this point if they rest then the supposed Avangion appears to them asking them to use the Key of Darkness to let him escape the plain of shadows - the hollow place where he has been imprisoned. The party will use Lantern of Revealing to see if he really is what he claims and he is revealed to be Rajaat. They will think they have won but then he explains that he has brought you to his doorstep. Or at least the doorstep of my greatest disciple.

He says 'Athas is doomed without me'.

At that moment the gates of Castle Southdark open and Dwarf Banshee begin to pile out. They can see the broad wagon of the emissary in the courtyard as the gates open. They can also see Archmare riding a giant fly, hovering in the gates of the castle. 

Once Rajaat has alerted his followers in Dead Snakes to the fact that the party has the Key of Darkness all the zombies of the Sea of Glass will hunt them in search of their masters key. They will chase them relentlessly day and night as far as the Glass Ravine 

As well as the banshee chasing them from the castle they will find banshee coming directly at them - charging on undead kanks. 

If they are trapped by the army of undead by the ravine then the bride of Nibenay could fly in on a Cloud Ray and save them.

They will force them to leave behind their non PC companions who are not The Shadow Brides of Nibenay
