During the Invasion of Mistreach, the dwarves barricaded themselves within Mistreach Hold. At first, the dwarves endured the siege. They dug deeper into the heart of the mountain and discovered adamantine. With this new impenetrable metal they managed to push the invaders back, but not without great cost. Half their population had been exterminated, either by the war or famine. When they emerged, they were surrounded and vastly outnumbered by the armies of the Aegis Ascendancy. The templars of Aegis had uprooted their sovereignty and claimed the rich mines. The dwarven sovereign surrendered his lands to the Ascendancy but retained his right to govern them independently.
