- Death is the natural end of life. Grieve the fallen, but do not pity them. Exult in the time that they were granted.
- The path of Fate is sacrosanct. Those who pridefully cast off destiny must be punished.
- Undeath is an atrocity. Death is too good a punishment for those who pervert the rightful transition of the soul.
The Raven Queen, Matron of Death, also commonly known as the Matron of Ravens, is an entity of death and fate.
Blood, which plays a large part in the ritual of communing with the Matron within her temples, is one of many very powerful tools in the worship of the Matron of Ravens and sometimes blood magic is utilized by her followers.
The Raven Queen was once an ambitious elven mage of ancient Elvenkind, consumed by an obsession with collecting memories and essences. Many sages believed her to be mad, dismissing her actions as either aimless curiosity or a desperate bid to stave off her fading existence. In her pursuit to conquer death, she performed a forbidden ritual seeking immortality but was instead cursed, transformed into a being trapped between the Shadowfell and the Material Plane. After her ascension, her true name has long been lost. Her devotees seek her favor to guide them in death and prevent the curse of undeath from falling on them.
Her soul shattered, and she now exists as an echo between these two realms, rumored to influence the balance of life and death. To sustain her cursed form, she feeds on memories—each painful or sorrowful one making her stronger. As her spirit drifts through the planes, her influence has begun to grow. The followers of the Divine Kindred view her as a false god, an abomination born from a mortal's foolish attempt to claim divinity.
