Possibly the most iconic aspect of humanity is the UNION or Union of Earth Nations, the one single organisation that survived the collapse of Earth and facilitated the expansion of humanity in to the stars. Their vast wealth and political alliances with the Atlas Corporation and Terran Genesis have made them humanities superpower.
The political structure is based around the President and the UNION Council, with a huge bureaucracy to support it.
The military are external to this political behemoth and answer directly to the President. Although the military structure is convoluted and multifaceted.
Originally based in the Neo-London Metroplex and made up of member countries Britain, United States, Canada, Australia, France, Spain, Korea, Japan and Saudi Arabia as well as several Private Corporations most notably ATLAS and Terran Genesis.
The UNIONs iconic black and white logo with the Lions Head make them easy to spot. As does their military in Peace Keeper colours.
Union or otherwise known as Union of Earth Nations hails from Earth. They are/were the administrative government of Earth and indirectly all of it colonies. The Union capital was in the Neo-London Metroplex.
Two notable organisations that enforce the Unions socio-political might is the UNION Navy (UN) and the Union Marine Core (UMC).
When earths ecology began to catastrophically fail a Union of nations banded together to save humanity. The Nations were led mainly by Britain, United States, Canada, Australia, France, Spain, Korea, Japan and Saudi Arabia as well as a number of Private Corporations most notably ATLAS, who supplied the facilities to produce the first space craft and colonisation technology.
When the Earth falls to the Volk the Union now manages what is left of its once huge holdings from Union Station in orbit around Gleise.
Main branches of the Union…
Colonial Police – CP
The civilian arm of the security services, responsible for the everyday policing of colonies and stations. Answerable to the UBS and not the military. The CP make use of Security Droids, drones, automated sentries and officers to perform their duties to protect and serve the people of the Union. The wear uniform that is distinctly not Union Military.
Military Science Division – MSD
A small but highly specialised group of technicians and scientists. Not affiliated to any of the corporations and acting in the sole interests of the Union. These individuals and groups are found throughout most of the Union Territories; they are often found working alongside other branches, acting as advisors. There is always at least an MSD crew member aboard most large Union ships.
Naval Intelligence – NI
The intelligence arm of the UN, having jurisdiction of all non-earth territories their role includes real-time reporting on the developments and activities of foreign entities; protecting extrasolar resources and interests; monitoring and countering transnational extrasolar threats; providing technical, operational, and tactical support to the UN and its partners; and surveying the galactic extrasolar environment.
Union Bureaucratic Service – UBS
Responsible for the day to day running of the Union, these administrators ensure that the Union is a coherent and unified organisation. And to ensure that corruption, misuse and abuse of Union resources does not occur.
Union Marine Core – UMC
Created to deal with first response military situations, based on G-Hab. They are a rapid response frontline well trained and well-disciplined group of soldiers, made up of normal people, modders and synthetics of various types. Only those that can met the rigorous requirements can hope to be part of the “Core”.
Union Navy – UN
If its military and it’s not on Earth then the UN are responsible it. The fleet of ships, the security of Naval Facilities and military might of the Union is demonstrated by the largest Space fleet in existence.
Union Penal Corp – UPC
Responsible for ensuring that convicted criminals are securely detained. Prison colonies, Prison Ships and Penitentiaries are all maintained and operated by the UPC. The also field the only convicted prisoner military unit, who are used as first responders to military action alongside the UMC.
Union Scout Service – USS
Responsible for the exploration and expansion of Union Territory. They work alongside TG to ensure that resources, communications and the fleet of Scout Ships move freely throughout space. Highly skilled at both piloting and combat these individuals are tough adventurers. The most popular movie series of all time is based on the mostly true stories of one particular member of the USS.
Union Technical Corp – UTC
Responsible for all of the maintenance and installation of technical items for every branch of the Union. Whether aboard space craft, habitats, or planet side they are to be found.
Union Diplomatic Corp – UDC
The diplomatic arm of the Union, responsible for trade negotiations, brokering peace agreements or anything else once military action ceased. These skilled negotiators are found. Every ship of frigate or above in the Union fleet has a UDP Diplomat aboard.
Union Counter Intelligence Service – UCIS
Since the ESPer war it was quickly determined that there were not only external threats to the Union but also threats from within. This civilian black-ops group are responsible to ensure that every effort is made to ensure that the safety of the Union and its citizens. To keep the Union safe, secure and resilient to external and internal threats. They are part of the UBS and work alongside many CP officers but they also send of Operators into Union Territory and beyond for the purpose of intelligence gathering and to perform tasks in line with their mandate.
