Rules of the Road

Cultural Code

The ethical tenets held common in Teamster Culture. Colloquially and orally transmitted, not explicitly codified but frequently referred to by name. They generally consist of treating others well, prioritizing safety and charity. They give especial attention to travelers, not only as a means of mutual aid for Truckers, but as an assumed duty of protection to the weak. There are limits to this, however. As safe passage is prioritized, non-intervention is generally the rule. One helps those they can help without rocking the boat and getting all Truckers banned from a local community. For this reason, Hitchhikers are considered the exception to obligations of taking passengers, as the risk of being associated with interventionist action is too great. Still, many Truckers feign ignorance of the signs of a Hitchhiker, giving them rides in exchange for secrecy to keep them out of any backlash.
