For this reason, Hitchhikers are considered the exception to obligations of taking passengers, as the risk of being associated with interventionist action is too great. Still, many Truckers feign ignorance of the signs of a Hitchhiker, giving them rides in exchange for secrecy to keep them out of any backlash.
