Gary (Economic System)

Economic System

There is no currency in Gary, nor are there permanent or consistent professions or jobs. All citizens enter a work queue and fulfill the needs of the job to which they are randomly assigned for any given period.

Allocation of workers

Light Indicator System

Throughout Gary, gary-colored lights are placed above passages to indicate where a worker is needed. If the light is on, a worker is needed. If it is off, the worker should go to the next passage in their current space. If none are on, they should exit their current space until they see an active light.

Transit System

Citizens start the workday by entering their local transit system station ("Gary"). All Gary (Structure)s have a transit station in their ground level.

A worker enters the first transit compartment they see with an active light.

They exit the compartment if the door's light is on. If it is off, they stay on the compartment until they are taken to a station that needs workers.

Stations

When a worker enters a station, they immediately see a series of corridors. They enter the closest corridor with an active light.

Corridors

Corridors are the most varied forms in the system. They may branch into other corridors, transit stations for transfer, or directly to workspace doorways. Workers follow the same light algorithm as elsewhere to arrive to their destination.

Doorways

Doorways serve as rear access to various workspaces. If a light is on, the workspace needs a worker. Workers enter the nearest doorway and deactivate the light if they are the only worker needed, reactivating it when they leave if they need replacement(s).

Execution of Work Duties

All job positions in Gary are temporarily held. When filling a job duty, a citizen is required to listen to a recording of the algorithm that determines their actions. Previous experience fulfilling the job duty is not an acceptable justification for not listening to the recording. In fact, it is UnGary (Punishment) to not approach your job each day with a blank slate, as if you had never done it before.

This applies to every job in Gary (City-State), from janitors to judges.
