The McDoubling

Societal Shift

The McDoubling is the name given by informal cultural consensus to the sweeping changes enacted in American society to accommodate and promote the Double-Wide, in order to enrich private interests by stroking the cultural sensitivities of the people who would later be called Toofers. Later, this would extend to further changes in society after the emergence of Homo Duplex.

Infrastructure

Roadways

Most roadways in the US were widened by a factor of 50-300%. Infrastructure funding was generally reoriented to focus on those that were widened, deeming those that weren't to be obsolete.

Notably, Greg Abbott (Rename) spearheaded an amendment to the Texas Constitution that exempted any municipal body from maintenance of roadways that were insufficient to accommodate DWs, and prohibited the construction of any such infrastructure. Texas was the original home of the McDoubling before it was codified federally.

Parking Lots

This shouldn't have to be its own section. But it is. Parking is life.

Designated Lanes

Many jurisdictions designated exclusive lanes for DWs in an effort to reduce traffic collisions.

Mandatory Right-of-Way

Collision Liability Exceptions

Pass-Under Obligation

Zoning Ordinances

Many jurisdictions moved to legalize DWs for consumer use in all roadways, often ahead of any indicated consumer demand. DWs were afforded special privileges and exemptions in traffic rules, such as designated lanes, mandatory right-of-way, collision liability exemptions, and pass-under obligations for smaller vehicles.

Some jurisdictions banned DWs outright, the smallest of which simply got Raze Rallied. Others were subject to various angles of sabotage by the various private interests and aligned governmental actors that stood to profit.
