When refugees flooded into Merensky Station, they quickly overwhelmed its carrying capacity. To alleviate the overcrowding, parts of the mining tunnels were widened and insulated for connection to the Station's life support system. These generally housed the least fortunate and latest refugees, and the settlements were the first to be abandoned.
