The Dwarves of Chaia are a secretive species, living far below the ground. They average four and a half feet in height - rarely, if ever, exceeding five. Their skin is grayish and slightly translucent, owing to their sunless lives. They have the ability to see into the thermal spectrum, as well as a type of darkvision.

Dwarven society is completely unknown to Humans, as no Human has ever been able to withstand the intense silence and seclusion of their underground citadels.

Dwarven stonework is among the most sought-after commodities known on Chaia. Dwarves have the unique ability to shape the stone into the desired form without chisel or hammer. This stone shaping renders the stone as hard as iron, should the Shaper wish it.

Once per year, in the Springtime, representatives of the United Dwarven Citadels will visit each capital city, inquiring about any requested work anywhere within the country. They will name their prices, and if it is agreed upon, the representative will have Shapers sent to each necessary location.

The Dwarves and Lizardfolk have a special relationship, in that the Dwarves gave a minor version of their Shaping ability to the Lizardfolk. This exchange had an unknown price paid to the Dwarves, but it was enough for them to teach this secret.

Occasionally, a Dwarf will be enslaved, but this tends to go poorly for all parties, owing to the natural ability of Dwarves to Shape earth and stone. They can only be kept above ground when enclosed in a metal cell.
