Selected by a Dragon, at a young age, Zaan served the cult and the dragon Thurvokun. However, at the onset of the Dragon War, Thurvokun left Skyrim and flew into the mountains of central High Rock. The Cult followers beneath Zaan's authority blamed her for the dragon's departure and rebelled against her. Zaan went in search of Thurvokun, but her "followers" pursued her into High Rock.
Amidst the ruins of a Dwemer city called Arkngthamz-Phng, the dragon would be found. Zaan did not, however, reach the dragon, before the followers caught up with her. Consumed under the will of the Daedric Prince Peryite, the followers unleashed magical explosions of disease and plague bringing about the death of Zaan. Never discovering Thurvokun there, the followers left and returned to Skyrim. Thurvokun made the ruins his lair into the 1st era before he died, either due to natural causes or being slain by the Dragonguard.
