These powders and liquids can be used in tandem with projectiles to add additional damage to an attack. Depending on which type of essence used, it changes the type of the additional damage.
The only difference between a vial of powdered distilled essence and liquid distilled essence is that only certain projectiles can use powder and other can use liquid. Liquid can be used for most projectiles, sling bullets, arrows, crossbow bolts, darts, etc., while powder can only be used for for firearms. The additional usage of powdered distilled essence over liquid is that it can speed up the process of enchanting, and when mixed with regular inks, they can be used for scribing spells.
A vial of distilled essence can be used on 5 pieces of ammunition, the attack deals an additional 1d6 of the damage type the essence is. Damage from all ammunition that has distilled essence, all damage is considered magical for the purpose of overcoming resistances.
There is distilled essence for almost every type of damage, though only certain types can be manmade, and all generate naturally in certain areas, though requiring refinement. Manmade distilled essence is much weaker than its naturally occurring counterpart, only being used supplementally. Naturally occurring distilled essence has a few additional benefits. All types of distilled essence are as follows:
- Agios. The additional damage dealt is radiant. Naturally Occurring. If consumed by an injured creature, it heals them for 2d8 hit points.
- Fotia. The additional damage dealt is fire. Naturally Occurring. If consumed by a creature, they become resistant to cold damage for an hour.
- Fragor. The additional damage dealt is thunder. Naturally Occurring. If consumed by a creature, all attacks deal an additional 1d10 lightning damage for the next minute.
- Fulgur. The additional damage dealt is lightning. Naturally Occurring. If consumed by a creature, all attacks deal an additional 1d10 thunder damage for the next minute.
- Gelus The additional damage dealt is cold. Naturally Occurring. If consumed by a creature, they become resistant to fire damage for an hour.
- Internus The additional damage dealt is psychic. Naturally Occurring. If consumed by a creature, they gain telepathy out for 100 feet for an hour.
- Medeis The additional damage dealt is force. Naturally Occurring. You can replace any material components with a cost with the equivalent amount of distilled essence.
- Morsitos The additional damage dealt is necrotic. Naturally Occurring. If consumed by a creature, they become under the effects of death ward for an hour.
- Ostium The additional damage dealt is poison. Naturally Occurring. If consumed by a creature, they gain immunity to poison damage and the poisoned condition for 1 minute.
- Oxino The additional damage dealt is acid. Naturally Occurring. If an attack with this distilled essence deals a critical hit, the target's armour class is reduced by 1 for an hour.
