Session 02

Session Summary
November 5, 2023
  • Meriag arrives in Slyriver just after nightfall and finds that the one hub of activity is a tavern called the Faithful Tankard, but it is closing for the night and he follows a group of dwarven mercenaries back to the Darkwood Inn.
  • Scheming from within their room at the inn, Ern, Nilrith and Ralam devise a plan to rob Burgomeister Kieren's manor house. Scratching a layout into the bloodstained floor covered by a tatty rug.
  • Meriag see's that there is no one at the desk at the inn and all the guests have filtered off to their rooms. He starts to sneak upstairs, looking for a room to lift some valuables. One room has loud snoring, and by chance is also unlocked.
  • The others sneak out of their ground-floor window, Ralam stumbles a bit, knocking against the wall. They make their way around the building and start following the road towards the manor house.
  • Meriag sneaks into the room, two dwarves sleep, the one not snoring stirs and he has to quickly slide himself under a bed to not be detected. He sees a bag by the window, grabs it, eases the window open, and starts to climb out. He hears a dwarf speak, confused by the dark figure in his room. Meriag slips and falls from the first floor window and his legs fold underneath him as he hits the ground hard.
  • Sneaking through the dark roads of Slyriver, the trio hear loud footsteps rushing up to their position. Meriag blunders into them as a voice shouts from a window in the distance. A tense introduction is shortly followed by a rush for cover when they hear the door of the inn open.
  • Out of sight and confident no one is following, a second attempt at introductions is made. The four join together after an agreement and a peace offering is made, a thief folding into their plans quite neatly.
  • At the manor house they pick the lock of the back door and start snooping. Ralam sneaks into the butlers bedroom, he is asleep, but Ralam casts a magical sleep to guarantee they will not be disturbed.
  • They find a number of items valuable to them, monetarily or for the information they contain. 
    • A letter shows that Kieren owes an individual named Tiramel a great deal of money, he was loaned it to set up business in Slyriver and is now receiving threats.
    • Kieren has also been researching a wizard named Haldrin, who went missing a century ago and had a tower on the Finimere Lake. He believes if he finds the old wizard's work he will never have money problems again.
    • A small black strong box containing; a twisted root (?g), two old pieces of parchment with scrawled markings (?g).

  • Ralam forges a note to suggest Tiramel has sent employees to rob the house to pay back on debts.
  • Ern casts a spell, summoning a floating disc to carry all the loot they have found.
  • The four return across the village and sneak back through the window of their room at the Darkwood Inn.
