- Ern stirs in his bed at the Darkwood Inn as he is filled with a vision of his patron Shune the Vile. The words "You, Find, Repay" ring out during the vision.
- The party rise, pack there things and set off to sell unwanted items in the village. On their way out they overhear Zorm talk with a fellow mercenary. They are discussing the new arrivals from Wardenwood who informed them that the Red Cap Ravagers have been sighted in the Gloaming. The Divine Explorers seem unnerved by such news.
- The party shed their unwanted gear, while they do they spy Butler Jeromia speaking with one of the dwarven mercenaries, he seems to be linking last nights robbery with the late night visitor leaving the name 'Nilrith' and a promise of a delivered message.
- The four crawlers, Ern, Meriag, Nilrith, and Ralam, leave Slyriver via the southern road, heading for the infamous forest, the Gloaming.
- Towards the end of the second day of travel the party cross the threshold into the Gloaming, tall dark trees looming over them. Needing somewhere safe to camp, they notice an overgrown trail leading off the main road to an old tower in the distance.
- On this trail, Nilrith notices a standing stone covered in bramble, he clears it to reveal a carved symbol of a clover.
- Arriving at the tower, it's revealed to be an ancient ruin. Little to no shelter is present to protect them from the encroaching rain. After a quick search they find an old trap door that leads down beneath the Shattered Tower.
- Heading down into the darkness they find a large cistern full of murky water and several chambers leading off through green doors.
- They notice something disturbing the water as it swims beneath the algae covered surface.
- After Ralam almost falls into the water due to a loose stone on the walkway, the party ask Meriag to jump over to the door where the walkway had collapsed.
- With rope around his waist, he makes it, picks the lock and enters. The room contains bookshelves and a carving of a sitting king. He takes a small strongbox from one of the shelves, all the books crumble when touched, only two embossed book spines can be read "Legend of the Emerald Blade" and "Sword Forms of a Green Knight". As he studies the carved relief of the king, he deduces it contains a trap, and other hidden workings.
- Ralam makes a campfire in the first room where Ern tries to get some sleep. Meanwhile, Nilrith holds a torch and the rope tied to Meriag's waist.
- Ern, whether it was his intent or not, is revisited by Shune the Vile in a dream. "You, Find, Repay". Ern sees himself sleeping, curled up in a corner. In the vision it is revealed that there is a symbol at the base of the wall, hidden from sight.
- Ern wakes himself and clears the debris in the corner of the room, revealing a symbol of a burning sun. He grabs a lit piece of kindling from the campfire and presses it to the symbol. The symbol glows, dust shifts from an invisible seam, and the wall shifts to the side with a loud grinding of stone on stone.
