Session 9: Victims of Circumstance
After a music-filled evening the party heads their separate ways. Khashana heads to the outskirts of town to find a tree to travel to Neverwinter. While walking to the forest’s edge she has the unnerving feeling that she’s being watched, but she can’t manage to see anyone or anything that may be watching her. Smig beds down for the night on the floor of the party’s shared room after tucking his pet weasel into a more comfortable bed. Dorbin spends the late hours of the night constructing a new homunculus. Ivy holds a midnight vigil to Kelemvor. Jeth settles into a hot bath with a nice bottle of wine—the finer things in life after a rather tumultuous set of days on the road. The party rouses at different hours and eventually gathers for a somewhat restful though interesting morning in the common room at the Proudheart Inn & Tavern. At some point during breakfast Ivy muses aloud that she doesn’t understand why everyone they’ve encountered in Leaf’s End thinks of them as “amateur” adventurers, and as she is talking, she is interrupted by the hearty laughter of a mountain of a man at the table next to them—Lugar “Horse” Redgate. Horse takes Ivy’s shock as an invite to join the table—he is especially interested in the bevy of food at the table. After a while Maja joins the group. Horse suggests that he is interested in exploring the Twisted Branches with the group. The party quizzes him on a few things—he mentions that his most difficult encounter in the Twisted Branches was with a half-tiger creature with backward hands. Smig asks some circuitous questions about a dragon’s horn (Draakhorn). Jeth is skeptical of Horse—why would this man suddenly be interested in accompanying the party? Ivy tries to get a read on Horse and feels that he is being honest. Maja tells the group that he used to be one of the Thorngarde Rangers before his entire detachment got wiped out—he’s mostly lonely and looking for adventure. During further conversation the party learns about the Stone Folk. They make plans for the rest of the day: Dorbin plans to check out the Guild and perhaps chat with Guildmaster Ifan Zoza; Khashana wants to wander about the town (edge of town) and also visit Horse; Smig is wary of the Guild and also remembers that they are to search for a missing gnome by the name of Ziggy Glimrock Glambramble; Jeth and Ivy make plans to talk to townsfolk about missing kids and mayor.

smig and dorbin look around and don't see much.
Kashahna doesn't see any children alone. she goes to look for an area that maybe kids would get lost by. edge of town. a few small outbuildings. a large structure and an open space.
walking through the middle of a run down graveyard. sees no children.
smig and dorbin thinks khashana chose wrong for children playing at a graveyard. she asks where she should go. dorbin wants to meet the rest of the party. ivy might like this.
smig looks for recent graveyards.

Commune with nature on patch. nothing in the town. spell doesn't work in town. but around the town. nothing. defeated a bit. not sure what to do.
ivy is the only person in the group wihout a pet.
jeth wants a list of the missing children and description
less exotic humanoids in this area.

smig and i say we are looking for children and where they went missing.
The Unknown. there are a party that came back from the branches. white fruit tree. they had one. showed it around town and one of the kids, Unknown? he was the first to disappear trying to find that tree.
couple other kids went looking. missing. over months, more.
let's ask horse! i bonded with him. guild hall for dorbin.
Hugh was the most recent lost child a couple months. ago. mayor's nephew. then the mayor went to look and never came back.
old man saw the fruit. never heard of this before and he grew up here.
some adventuering party found it.
tell horse that he owes old kadogg for that bet he lost a while ago. smig pays the debt but khashana feels about paying ones debts.
Smig wants to take bread to the guild hall. Kahshana turns into a cat. easier for friendship with children? and Im tired, I can sleep in smig's hood next to smoky. also 1/2 speed.
Jeth and Ivy enter the mayor's hall. the mayor doesn't look like he has been sleeping at all. he looks exhausted and broken. acting mayor wren mattock.
the mayor is tense.
Russ , the old mayor. didn't want them to forget. Haven't carved his name yet.

the group that found the tree, seemed to have lost time while there. they felt relaxed and well rested and didn't want to leave. points a finger to where the group thought the tree might have been.
elgan had been talking for days to his family about the fruit. obssessed. maybe magical?
jeth gets a description of the children
some places in the branches don't want to be found.
ivy tries so hard to not overwhlem with kelemvor.
jeth really does not like the guild.
jeth and ivy wonder about if we all stick out like sore thumbs.
we see Unknown and catshana jumps on his head. midron is sweet. he is doing okay. cat chuck of bread. smig takes the bread from me and midron.
kashana asks midron about the white tree. midron gets sad and doesn't wanna talk about it. where the last place they were. midron is upset.
elgan's house used to be the place to go but they can't play any.
i tell dorbin and smig incase they didn't know.
elgan's house was by the blacksmith. go across the square, where the stables are. right there.

ivy and jeth make it to the guild. they question them about what they are doing there.
horse doesn't go out lately. we are here to collect horse for our mission.

jeth is pissed. he does not like the guild.
smig and dorbin walk up to the guild. the guards are eyeing all of this weird group.

horse likes me and pets me. i say hi and ask for more stew.
just assume any random animal is kashana. esp bears.

past spring. not registered with the guild. don't know where they came from. talked stories of this wonderful tree and how great it made them feel . showed a piece of fruit. never heard of that before. must have been elgan's father bought the fruit. Took it home to elgan. but his child was the first to vanish. don't know if they ate it or not.

if you are going to get in business with lugar, know that after his old contingent was killed.
Unknown fiendish creature harrasing caravans. Unknown was dispatched to do away with them
made it back to town, scratched up and half alive. not the same. doesn't remember as much from that time.
didn't know where he was going when he came out. lugar said he killed the creature but no official proof.

ivy wonders about if the guild master is a rakshasa.
smig asks if this happened at the same time as the fruit tree. nope. couple months between.
lots of travellers here. it's a waypoint. the purpose of the guild is to support the town itself and filter magical items. through an organized system to karse.
there are some less desirable organizations.
at times magic functions differently or shows uop odfly. long lost poretals.
talk with Unknown. she knows about the history of the woods., maybe she will know more.
lyn is not a guild associate. lyn has been here as long as i can remember. not an adventurer.
