Ceres

Lady of the Hunt

"Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature—the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter."

— Ceres, the Lady of the Hunt

Ceres was born under the light in the moon, at the dawn of the first century while humanity still wandered the Evermarsh, bound by the strict rules of a hunter gatherer society.

After the War of the Human Dark, creatures known as Mabeasts roamed the land, devouring humans and using their mana to spread taint across the land. This taint resulted in a build up of flux which threatened to kill off all wild life on the planet.

Due in part to Ceres's strong will, as well as the advice she gave hunters of that prehistoric society, the Mabeasts began to retreat under the ground into the Underdark, and humanity began to flourish, eventually being picked up by the Lord of Sun, Azasar, as they began forming the first agricultural villages.

She is known as the goddess of the hunt, and is generally prayed to before any large gathering operation. She is also the mother of wolves, excluding lycantrophy. However, lycans still pray to her along with their mother deity, as they are both considered two sides of the same coin, each representative of a different part of their self.

Depiction

Ceres has always taken the form of her favorite sentient species, humans. That isn't to say she exclusively loves humans, but during the first dawn and the aftermath of the War of the Human Dark, other sentient species were not yet developed. As humans were the first, it is natural she would feel a kinship with them.

Oftentimes, Ceres will adopt the racial traits of a wolf: specifically, the ears. She has also been known to appear in front of her followers in the guise of a wolf to issue advice.

Commandments of Ceres:

  • Work for humanity to strive! Keep the cycle going!
  • Respect nature and that which you hunt! Also, use every part of the animal.
  • Be optimistic! Think good of yourself and your companions.
