Session 5b

Monday 15th of March

Our Quest

We're looking for clues in the mines about godly interference, Qyunni.

We're to ask Haast, the local leader, why they're suddenly getting so much copper but to, of course, keep it coming.

For the trip, we ask .. someone, Lev maybe, for gear for the trip. We receive two good capes with deep pockets, very warm, cow's leather. All bundled up, we looked like walking teepees, basically.

We're also handed bedrolls lined with fur, 3 sets of pitons, some soft rope, 2 wooden mullets and a sledgehammer for the heavier duty. All of that was loaned to us. And then 2 bottles of sake for the miners. As gifts 🙂

The Forest

We got going into the woods, and as we walk, we talk about this and that. We find a pool of sparkling water with two or three fish in it. The fish try to creep us out but they're not very successful and we keep moving. I'm pretty sure I heard the fish murmuring about us being stuck up or something because they couldn't scare us. Water spirits are weird like that. But Verla is even more hellbent on fish being magical.

We keep talking and Dago mentions a ladle. He forgot his ladle at the pool of weird fish. His grandmother's ladle. His grandmother, who only had one arm, and that ladle saved her life as well as countless other things. It was an important ladle and we had to go back. Dago was trying to mess with Verla, and instead of falling for it, she instead ushered him on, making him go along with his own joke for far too long. We didn't go back for the ladle.

At night, we bed down, and as Dago is asleep by the campfire, Verla is on the lookout. She is perfecting her already impressive punches, but finds that as she is almost meditating, the need to punch faster rather than harder comes to her, and trying it out, a crackling boom shoots out from her fist and the punch is carried further than her arm could reach. It hits a tree with a crunch and the fire is almost snuffed seeing as she accidentally shot through it. Dago is awoken and confused. Just as confused as Verla. it was a weird night.

After 3 days of forest and levelling up (Mario noise), we arrive at the mountains. There's a stunning view the further up we get. We get all bundled up and get to walking.

The Mountains

We get to a crevasse and there's a tree on the other side. Crevasse is like 20-25ft across. We bounce off a couple of different theories and end on Verla throwing Dago's harpoon at the tree with a rope tied to it. To make sure it sticks and can carry her weight too, she puts in a little extra power by first throwing it and then punching the air right behind the harpoon to give it extra speed. It hits, and doesn't shatter the harpoon, which imbeds itself far into the tree. We tie the other end of the rope to the rocks behind us and climb across. The harpoon is retrieved but not the rope.

The Bilingual Bear Incident

It's getting dark and we find a nice cave in the darkness, how very fortunate. Unfortunately, the cave might be abandoned, but not for long as a brown bear appears by the front of the cave as we are settling down inside. Verla watches disappointedly as Dago lobs a fish out the cave entrance and down the cliff. The bear is intrigued. He throws a few more, and the bear follows the fish - easy dinner. We don't see her again, but instead get into a discussion as to why Dago couldn't just speak to the bear and tell it not to bother us, but Dago's excuse is that he doesn't speak bear. Verla, exasperated, questions how he can speak horse but not bear, and he says he's never seen a bear nor spoken to one, but Verla is back with a question that had the wheels turning in Dago's head as he tried to comprehend what "How do you know bears aren't bilingual?" is supposed to mean. The discussion goes on for a bit, with God behind the DM screen in shambles, and the lines "It's the same color anyway, how do you know it would speak bear, not horse as well" with a reply of "Many animals are brown or black, Verla" and a good "What do I know, I'm colorblind" from verla - this time, her attempt to mess with him a little in return. In the end, they agreed on the bear being gone being a good thing as well as being relieved they only had to get rid of a few fish, where Dago was worried he'd have to empty the basket.

The Last Trek to the Mines

The next day, we follow the path, on which we see a statue of worship for the God of Dreams, Halem. (I don't remember what we did to it, but I think we touched it.)

We roll the fate die and it was a 34 😛
