Masuul consists of the Masuul mainland, and the island, Pruqi. The capital, Hurrir, lies on the tip of the outcropping to the west.

Mount Campe'il lies in the center of the country, which the people see as a holy place on which it is an honor to live. It is a theocracy with focus on agriculture and heavenly virtues.

On the mountain, mostly goliaths and mountain dwarves harvest rice from the mountain, while the base of Mt. Campe'il is better for a lot of crops like wheat, tomatoes, and cabbage types. The amount of lakes in the country makes it very wet and fertile but also makes reed the most prominent grass type. This is what most of the villages build their homes and boats out of.

Most of these farmers are better swimmers than your average Dwarf or Goliath.

Culture

Masuul is known for its dwarf-goliath symbiosis from which a lot of odd combinations derive.

As the generations have passed, the dwarves and goliaths have come closer and few are actually pure dwarf or pure goliath by now. Some see this as a good thing with the races mingling, others see it as tainting the races, though this point of view is rarely seen in villages.

These dwarf-goliaths are known as Erva, or half-bloods, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes, though the stocky build, grey skin, and facial hair no matter gender, are almost a certainty.

Northern hair

To the north, many dwarves and ervas, and the few goliaths who possess hair, have a strong tradition to never cut their hair shorter than to the waist. This is a sign of pride and that they have done nothing wrong for a long time. When the hair is cut short, they have committed a serious crime and are viewed differently than the other members of the village. Distrust and avoidance is often seen if somebody's hair is cut short. An almost bald head is met with complete avoidance and can be seen as a social banishment which many see as their cue to leave town until their hair has grown back. This hair cut is not taken lightly and has significant cultural meaning.

Some choose to remove all their hair after this and play it off as an erva with no hair in a new town, but that is a dangerous lie to live and few dare try.

Historic events

Culture: The End of the Cleave - For many generations, the dwarves and goliaths lived together but they were forbidden, by ancient laws, to interbreed or to eat food prepared by the other race. They were not hierarchically segregated, but they were not the same, and thus their families were not to be intertwined nor were they to consume the same grain. There are many stories as to why these rules were placed, but no one knows for sure. It all came to a head when protesting mass-marriages were done and the elders against this could do nothing but watch as their time, afterwards known as the Cleave, came to an end.

Economics: The Decade of Famine - When Ming’al was still ruling Masuul, particularly bad weather hit the land right before Riin was meant to begin. Most lost a full year’s worth of work in that harvest. After this, Lockiz came and with it the opportunity to mend the economy, but a very dry Tholes ruined the prospects of the next harvest just the same as the ground dried up during the flowering months. After this, the taxes rose and many starved. The country had lost most of its economical value in the lost harvests and it took 10 years before the Lucky smiled upon them once more. A fertile Tholes, a bountiful Riin and a cleansing freezing Waranya set the farmers back on track and with it, the taxes fell again. After this, however, the Yennea Church decided to always have extra stock of food in every village and they funded most of the building of said silos with the excess currency after this divine rebound. 510ya.

Politics: Before the current high priest’s mother, High Priestess Goa Nu, the Yennea Church was governed by a priest named Ming’al. Ming’al had been ruling Masuul for almost 200 years and was close to bringing the land to ruin with his high taxes and great banquets displaying the agricultural power of Masuul. But he was assassinated by an unknown killer before the crops failed for good. Goa Nu was chosen as the new High Priestess by hand of the Lucky, and she chose to lower the taxes and ban all future religious banquets. 397ya. Goa Hanni, the current high priest, has upheld this law but the taxes are slowly rising and farmers are slowly banding together to do something about it. They say he was not chosen by the gods as his mother was, and thus he has no right to the title.

Religion: The Harvester Speaks - this spawned the Fui Leyan Church, later renamed the Yennea Church after the goliath, Yen’ne who first spoke with the Harvester himself. 1200ya

Technology: Masuul has developed the best boats for shallow waters as they glide through the water almost soundless and with very little disturbance. They are very light and are mainly used for lakes and the shallow areas of the coast, where shallow water fishing is most prominent. The main ingredient for these boats is the same as what they build their huts out of. The plant is very light and bendy and can easily be woven into a boat. The coating, however, is what makes it float the way it does - a local water plant can, when treated right, have extracted an oil that keeps the water out. This is then mixed with the blood aloe to make it stick to the boat as well as making it into a sort of glue that is both flexible and resilient. Despite its name it does not smell like blood and thus does not attract larger predators.

Geography: A giant earthquake ripped mount Campe’il in two and a giant piece of the northern peak crumbled, revealing a wall of magnetite previously unknown. This is now a blinding wall at times of the year drying up most of the smaller lakes by the base of the mountain during the summer making it hard to live there but was seen as a divine sign that a new age had come - the Age of Iron. The wall is now known as Wayward Sun as it can be seen from across the continent a few hours before sunset from the reflection alone. 200 ya. Economics - tiefling miners cuz they dont get sunburnt.
