Session #002: Mokkden Caverns Exploration

The day began in the early morning at Winnowing Reach, with the party congregating around Eliza Pennygleam's merchant cart, gearing up for the journey ahead. Prompted by Magistrate Walden Krane's urgent request, they set out to locate a missing researcher within the depths of the Mokkden Caverns, veering off their initial path with the promise of a letter of introduction to the Birdfolk Council upon completion.
The trek to the nearest entrance of the caverns, situated amidst the swampy expanse of the Mokk Fields, was uneventful and quiet. Their first challenge arose upon reaching the entrance, where they encountered a group of slimes. Skookum cleverly lured the majority away, allowing the group to tackle the remaining threat directly. Their tactics proved effective, although the previously distracted slimes soon returned, necessitating another brief but decisive confrontation.
Upon entering the caverns, the adventurers were met with an environment that was both alien and foreboding. The natural luminescence of fungi scattered throughout the tunnels provided their only light, revealing a network of paths that delved deep into the earth. It wasn't long before they came upon a structurally unsound tunnel. In a display of practical magic, Skookum and Bricks collaborated to collapse the dangerous section, ensuring safe passage.
Deeper exploration brought them to a spacious cavern, where a decision to take a brief respite was made. This pause was shortly interrupted by the discovery of various slimes inhabiting the cavern, leading to an ambush that tested the group's quick thinking and agility. Utilizing a combination of evasion and strategic spellcasting, including a well-placed Spike Growth by Skookum, they managed to navigate the perilous situation, dealing with the slime threats in a manner that allowed them minimal harm.
The encounter with the slimes wasn't without its minor setbacks, as Rose's armor suffered damage during the fray. Following the skirmish, the party took the opportunity to collect useful materials from their vanquished foes, turning a potentially dangerous encounter into a resourceful endeavor.
Choosing to rest in the cavern before proceeding, the adventurers prepared for the next phase of their exploration. The Mokkden Caverns continued to hold the promise of mystery, danger, and discovery. The quest for the missing researcher remains paramount, yet each step deeper into the caverns weaves new threads into their adventure.
