Point Helios is a massive city that sprawls out over a sunbathed plateau on Aratoma.
It exists on two tiers. Its upper tier is on top of the plateau, and down toward where the plateau slopes into the sea-level terrain below. Its lower tier continues down at sea-level, and expands out into a harbour area along the coastline.
A City of Contrasts
On the surface, Point Helios can be as shining of a beacon as its name entails, both in the upper and lower tier of the city. Sharp aesthetics, polished glass buildings, and holographic signage as far as the eye can see lends to a first-glance impression that the city’s administration has carefully crafted and curated to attract outside investment.
Underneath this gleaming surface, however, Point Helios has a vibrant underbelly of shadowy deals, contraband goods slipping under the radar, and criminal runners using the location as a place to lay low.
Origin and Name
Point Helios started its existence as a connecting spaceport, and grew from there into one of many interstellar trade hubs in its sector of the galaxy. Little of the original city still remains, with its spaceports moved further and further out toward the edges of the city as population density in its downtown area has increased.
The area where its original spaceports once used to sit is now the site of a massive tower — the Helios Spire — the tallest building in the city’s main office district, which functions as the administrative hub for both the city and surrounding settlements under its jurisdiction.
Public Amenities
Getting around Point Helios, as well as out to its directly connecting sattelites, is a breeze thanks to its elaborate and well-connected transit system.
Owning private transport within the city’s main perimeter is a luxury.
