A man matching his description was stated as having sold a small chest to the owner of a pawn shop in the Two Gates neighborhood of the Merchant Quarter, not far from the Gate of Increasing Fortune.

A guard at the Dragon's Gate recalled a man with a long scar running down his face over his right eye. He had a hard look to him that reminded him of his time serving in the army, not like the downtrodden look of most Leatherworkers. He recorded his name as “Saburo”.

His companion looked more like a typical Leatherworker, and seemed to have an injured arm in a sling.

He was last noted as having left the city in the early afternoon on the day of the robbery, taking a cart containing several bales of rice out of the Gate of Increasing Fortune and heading east along the Road Once Hidden.

A peasant in a village along the Road Once Hidden stated that a man matching his description appeared to be the leader of several men who dropped off a few bales of rice. The date is consistent with the robbery. He noticed that he carried a daisho bearing a familiar mon.
