A large, bronze bell. Several feet tall and about 40 lbs in weight. It was discovered in the hold of Kitsune Hamato's ship wrapped in silk. The surface is covered in kanji, most of which are worn away and illegible although the name "Hu Xiang" can be made out.
When rung in the presence of Usagi Ozaki it seemingly cured the spiritual malady he had been suffering from.
One of a set of twelve, the bells were created when a group of shugenja led by the great healer Hu Xiang gave their lives to banish a powerful evil spirit known as the Shimushigaki. They are kept together in a shrine near where the ritual was conducted that comes to be known as the Bells of the Dead. Ringing the bells daily is reputed to be what continues to keep the gaki from returning.
