Recent History
A largely unknown race created by the Nameless, the Ents have been left to their own devices and spend their days in great philosophical debates. These include such questions as what exact shade of blue the sky is, is there other intelligent life in the universe and general procrastination. The Nameless has refused to grant them any blessings since they begun the debate over his existence, and by extension, his Divinity/Godhood.
General Description
Ents are possibly the most bizarre sapient race native to Orth, and are by far the largest. They are not at all humanoid and are in fact sapient plants, consisting of a woody trunk topped with multiple branches, a seemingly random number of which (usually between four and ten) hang down with grasping claws on the end for arms. These arms are prehensile, extremely dextrous and seemingly extendable. They have anywhere between one and five eyes, which appear as bluish orbs in the centre of one side of their trunk, and simply a massive crack in their bark for a mouth. Their roots have evolved into legs, meaning they often have dozens or even hundreds of legs on which they walk in a similar manner to insects or arachnids. Very little else is known about them, but they are believed to be agender and hermaphroditic, like most other plant life, and to sustain themselves via photosynthesis.
Language
Ent language is a series of unintelligible groans and wooden creaks. As such Ent names are usually unpronounceable. It is unknown if any know, or indeed are even capable of speaking, any amount of Common as none have been reported entering any towns or cities in the last generation and reports from the villages are rarely regarded with great detail.
Ents and Halflings
The only race that has made any real attempt to contact them or interact with them are the Halflings who also share their forest home, but for the most part they just leave each other alone. Nobody believes their stories about talking trees anyway as Halflings are known for their tall tales. The most commonly told Hafling tale is of the first meeting between them and Ents, a sleeping Ent was storing a gold ring inside a knot in it’s trunk. The Halfling had inserted his arm past the elbow in an attempt to retrieve the ring, when the Ent awoke. Ents still continue in their view that they are the only intelligent life on Oerth as a result of this interaction.
Mysterious
Very little else is known about these strange, colossal beings, thanks to their isolation and active avoidance of other races, and very few, even in groups like the Order of Grand Wizards who set out to study such things, are even aware they exist.
