First and foremost, Slát is a mining town. Coal and peat have been dug here for centuries, though recent changes in laws and the Empire's various wildlife protection schemes for the peat bogs means that industry in this far-flung reach of the Grand Duchy of Tir has ground to a crawl. The reckless spending habits of the incumbent Baron, Dálaigh Cuinn, has not helped matters at all.
