The Voice of the Void

In certain dark places of the world, the original essence of the void may whisper to certain folk, driving them either mad or into service as Warlocks. The Void is a tireless puppeteer, still achieving its goals in the material plane based on its clutch of warlocks. A few of them, powerful and elusive, presumably work to create chaos and unravel the very fabric of reality. These warlocks are given special power to open gates in the thin places of the plane.
