QUESTIONNAIRE

How did you first manifest your powers?

I'd really rather not talk about it, but I have the feeling you're not going to accept that as an answer. [A pause, then a sigh.] When I was still a stupid child, every time I was mad about something I'd run off to an overpass to throw rocks at cars. It made me feel better, and hell, it wasn't like I was actually hurting anyone. One day, I- I don't even remember what had happened to cause it anymore, but it was by far the most furious I'd ever been. Next thing I know, there's a hole through someone's roof and a three-car pileup under the bridge. They- ha, they never found out it was me. Rock went clean through the top, out the bottom, must have shattered into gravel under them. [Coughs.] I could have- I almost killed them. I had to find out from the local paper there were kids in that car.

Is your sin-seed in your brain or in your heart?

It has to be in my brain. You're familiar with the Original Sin, I would assume. A fundamentally insatiable appetite for Knowing, at the cost of all we have and all we are? I've tasted a similar fruit and bitten off more than I could chew. All of my studies and efforts to make sense of what I am led to here. Where else would it be? If you're seeing anything anywhere else, it's- it's nothing. It has to be nothing.

What do you hide in the deepest parts of you?

Oh, certainly the fact that I'm some sort of horrific humanoid tensegrity structure. Only still standing under the force of constant tension. [Nervous laugh.] But much like my actual attic, I've tucked all of that into some nice little boxes and I really, really don't think we need to unpack any of them.

Is your hand your hand?

I used to think so, but the damn thing keeps sending my coffee flying across the room.

Do you remember the face of your mother?

Hard to forget the woman who stuck me with a name like Archimedes in this day and age. ... I hope she's doing better than I am.
