The Mage Department is one of the Departments of the Sword Regiment, which is a subsection of the Imperial Legions of the Holy Empire of Acolytius. It is led by the Colonel of Magic, who is currently Rutger Caedan.
The Mage Department is made up of any foot soldiers who utilize Magic in battle. It is by far the smallest Department of the Sword Regiment, as Magic requires extensive training to use for the purposes of battle. Even with its small size, however, the Mage Department still has a few of its own subsections that focus on different types of Magic. Aside from standard offensive Magic, these include groups that focus on protection and healing spells to provide support to other soldiers. There is also a group focused on enchanting weapons and armor, which provides an edge for other Departments in the Sword Regiment.
Soldiers in the Mage Department seldom wear armor, as bulkier armor interferes with their spellcasting and all of their time training is spent studying their spells. This means that they are restricted to wearing standard robes, although most know spells to protect themselves if they are attacked. These robes can be of many different colors or be decorated with different patterns, signifying the type of Mage they are and their rank.
