LASTHAVEN
We are given a sending from Gilbert Elynbrigge-Lytton telling us that Rin Bluewolf is missing. We will attempt to scry on her once we get something personal of hers to help with the scrying.
We are asked by the Steward Giliran Lyreir to do some city planning. Most of the residences are destroyed, and so we will need to rebuild the city.
We teleport to the Summit and then use the extradimensional space to go to Kingston. We speak to Gilbert Elynbrigge-Lytton and get permission to enter into Rin’s house, we get some hair from her brush. He tells us that she went to the poor quarter before the storm to help out, and didn’t return.
Codex uses scry and sees the vault in Deseragar. A crumpled body lies before the vault door, black hair covering the face. One of the gems embedded in the door is now glowing, with a shifting form inside. The two Eidolons lie to the side, heads ripped off.
Codex notes that Rin Bluewolf is dead, she wasn’t breathing, and had wounds indicating that she was beaten, and a claw mark on her back indicated she was held and pushed to the door.
The door only opens to members of the royalty, and Rin isn’t a member of the Royalty. This is why her soul was put in the gem, and the door didn’t open.
We tell Gilbert what happened, and Gilbert doesn’t know anything about this vault. Codex realizes that the line of kings was broken, and Tomas was never told of the existence of the vault by his father. Only the gold dragon Faranth knew.
We quickly go to Southspire and let High Marshall Jendelle Coldtale know that we will be moving the chairs to the underdark in three days. We get some stonemasons to rebuild Lasthaven. We also go to Maplebrook, it survived the storm because the Druids put a dome of earth over top of the city to protect it. Codex questions Kilver Packfinder about some details of the storm, getting details to put together a model of the storm. With Berdyn Silverchaser help he is able to localize the storm’s epicenter, it is the Citadel.
We then discuss the situation of Deseragar. Worried that the circle may be trapped, we have Berdyn Silverchaser go first, and then we follow. This is the case, as a symbol of death hits us hard. We are injured, but survive. The Symbol was cast by a very powerful caster.
Codex uses his Arcane Eye to scout out the vault, and it seems empty. We enter the vault, Rin is indeed dead. The door is enchanted with a 9 lives stealer, and one of the 9 gems is glowing. Rin’s soul is there. Realizing that Faranth designed the door, Codex uses a Sending to Faranth asking if Rin can be restored using a Resurrection. The response is quick – if Rin had ill intent, the door must be opened, but if she has no ill intent, she can be resurrected.
Simon Glas places his Rod of Alertness, and we become aware of a sensor for Scrying. Realizing that whoever came here is watching us, we immediately leave, teleporting back to the Summit. There we resurrect Rin, who tells us who captured her – and we recognize this as Xiammantoneldrym in his human form. Bale confirms this with Sabine, who was scouting Deserager and saw the dragon arrive in his human form at the teleportation circle.
This means that he knows where the vault is. How did he find out?
We return Rin to Kingston and warn Gilbert Elynbrigge-Lytton that the Royal family is in danger. Xiammantoneldrym will target them to try to open the vault and retrieve the artifacts. He lets us know that all the compounds of the royal families have been secured with Rin Bluewolf’s abduction, and King Morys Elynbrigge-Lytton requires Bale Caldwind AKA Able Elynbrigge-Alegan to come to the palace.
We head to the palace in an armored carriage, and in the palace Clarence guides us through a portal, which detects our magic items and scans our minds for evil intent. We meet King Morys Elynbrigge-Lytton, and next to him sits Faranth in his human form. His Wife and son are not there, likely secured away.
Morys Elynbrigge-Lytton tells us that Faranthhas filled him in regarding the artifacts and the vault, and has retaken his place as an advisor. Faranth lets us know that he can now act openly as Xiammantoneldrym is now actively working against the royal family.
Morys Elynbrigge-Lytton asks us to take the artifacts and secure them off world, as Xiammantoneldrym will continue to hunt the royal family until he is able to get the vault open. We wonder who told the red dragon about the vault, it may have been the Vecna Conspirators, it might have been Eve Clair, the thief that we freed from imprisonment by the giants.
We discuss options, and find out from Faranth that Xiammantoneldrym is still at Deserager. We have to draw him out to collect the artifacts, and come up with a plan. We will threaten Xiammantoneldrym's hoard, and that will cause him to come running. We will threaten his hoard with the other red dragon we know, the adult red named Brazzemal.
There is much to do, including figuring out where to stash the artifacts once we have taken them. Should we take then off plane?
We rest for the evening. A busy day is tomorrow – we will need spells to teleport and to prevent teleport.
